#SRINAGAR: The Joint #Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for #Jammu & #Kashmir and #Ladakh has approved an average 6.83 per cent hike in power tariff for Jammu and Kashmir for the financial year 2026-27.
The revised tariff will come into effect from September 1, 2026, and electricity bills for consumption from that date will be charged at the new rates.
According to the JERC order, JPDCL and KPDCL had sought a tariff increase to bridge their revenue gap. The Commission noted that the total Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) of the two distribution companies, after prudence check, stands at ₹10,275.72 crore, against revenue of ₹7,352.87 crore at the existing tariff.
The Commission said meeting the entire gap through tariff alone would have required an increase of around 40 per cent, which could have caused a significant tariff shock to consumers.
Taking into account ₹2,420.78 crore in financial support committed by the J&K Government as subsidy, the revised tariff is expected to raise revenue to ₹7,854.94 crore. The remaining gap will be met through government grant-in-aid.
