#SRINAGAR: PDP leader Waheed Ur Rehman Para has criticised the #Jammu and #Kashmir Government over the recently announced 6.83 per cent hike in power tariff, questioning the government over its earlier promises of relief to consumers.
In a post on social media, Para said the tariff hike comes at a time when unemployment is high, inflation is affecting households and ordinary families are struggling to make ends meet.
He recalled the government’s promises of 200 units of free electricity, free gas and free ration, and questioned how the assurances of relief had translated into higher electricity bills.
“From free tariff promises of relief to higher bills, what happened to the promise?” Para asked, tagging Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The 6.83 per cent average power tariff hike approved by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) is scheduled to come into effect from September 1, 2026.
