Robust Sanitation facilities in place to ensure eco-friendly pilgrimage: Dr. Singla

#ANANTNAG: Secretary Revenue and Nodal officer, Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2023 (SANJY 23) for Pahalgam Axis, Dr Piyush Singla,  today said that robust sanitation facilities are in place to ensure that SANJY 23 is  an eco-friendly Pilgrimage.

The Secretary made these remarks on the culmination of his three day foot tour to Holy Cave. He said that the unprecedented resource influx towards sanitation by the Government has reaped rewards and littering and open defecation on the track are all talk of  past.

Dr. Singla, who meticulously assessed the sanitation facilities along the track and in various camps en route, noted that toilet facilities have been strategically placed at regular intervals. He added that an ample number of dedicated personnel have been deployed to ensure proper maintenance.

The Secretary commended the efforts of  sanitation workers, whose hard work has resulted in litter free and open defecation free  track.

During his foot tour, Dr. Singla interacted with pilgrims who gave numerous positive remarks regarding the high standards of sanitation maintained throughout the Yatra. The pilgrims expressed their satisfaction with the efforts made to preserve the fragile ecology of Pahalgam, which is recognized as an eco-sensitive zone.

The camp directors at various camps, including Chandanwari, Sheeshnag, Wavbal, and Panchtarni, provided detailed briefings to the Nodal Officer regarding the availability of manpower at their respective camps. They assured the Nodal Officer that a well-structured schedule has been implemented to ensure cleanliness and create a pleasant pilgrimage experience for the Yatris. They also briefed the Secretary about the  waste disposal plan put in place for smooth conduct of Yatra.

Lt Governor inaugurates ‘J&K Health Conclave’ at Srinagar

#SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the ‘J&K Health Conclave’ on Mental Health and Non-Communicable Diseases at Srinagar, today.

On the occasion, J&K Health and Medical Education Department inked Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre and NIMHANS.

The Lt Governor also launched India’s first Tele-MANAS Chat-bot for J&K UT. The initiative will ensure round the clock services of Health Counsellors, Clinical Psychologists and Consultants.

In his address at the conclave, the Lt Governor commended the efforts of Health Department to bring together medical experts on a common platform to deliberate on most challenging health issues and to generate awareness on mental health and life threatening non-communicable diseases.

“Our ultimate objective is patient-centered care and all the efforts are being made to ensure that Primary Health Centers and District Hospitals provide quality care focusing on the physical as well as emotional well-being of individual patients,” the Lt Governor said.

He said the new landmark initiatives launched today are testimony to the commitment of J&K Administration in providing quality, affordable and accessible healthcare services to all.

The MoU inked between J&K Health and Medical Education Department and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre will provide significant technical support to improve cancer care services in the UT and help us to establish Preventive Oncology Service, Day Care Centres and Palliative Care Service at District Hospitals, he said.

Another important MoU signed today with NIMHANS Bengaluru will improve mental health services, training and capacity building of Medical Officers and nursing staff, he added.

The Lt Governor shared the strides made in developing the holistic healthcare ecosystem in the UT over the past few years.

Per capita spending on the health sector in J&K is among the highest in the country. During upgradation or building new infrastructure, we have focused on three factors- effectiveness, accessibility and resilient system, the Lt Governor said.

The Lt Governor called upon the medical fraternity and all stakeholders to deliberate upon the structural changes required in the healthcare sector. We need to have progressive rules and laws for modern healthcare, he added.

He further advised the Health Department on community involvement for awareness campaign on the National Mental Health Program and to ensure the benefits of the programme reach the needy.

On the occasion, the Lt Governor inaugurated 44 healthcare facilities worth Rs. 56.18 Cr to strengthen the medical infrastructure.

He also rolled out and launched several new initiatives to strengthen health system resilience including T3- Test, Treat and Talk Anemia Camps, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Programme, and Scan and Share service for OPD registration. On the occasion, the Lt Governor also distributed the Volunteer Engagement certificates to ASHAs.

In order to improve community extension of health services, National Health Mission, Jammu and Kashmir is recruiting 380 Additional ASHAs and 31 ASHA Facilitators as approved by Government of India.

Furthermore, there are also 334 numbers of tribal ASHAs sanctioned for various districts of J&K meant to cater the health care needs of the tribal population in an attempt to improve the health indicators of the migratory population.

Annual Swankha Mela begins with religious fervour

#SAMBA: The famous week-long Annual Swankha Mela began today at the temple of Bawa Sidh Goria Nath, a historical and religious place in Swankha village of Ramgarh, a border tehsil of Samba district. Devotees from Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Punjab, Himachal, Haryana, Delhi and other places participated in the event. They took a bath in the holy sarovar of Bawa Sidh Goria Nath ji and received blessings at his historic Samadhi.

On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Abhishek Sharma; Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba, Benam Tosh and many dignitaries from social and political spheres received Bawa ji’s blessings and prayed.

Abhishek Sharma spoke on the occasion, highlighting that the shrine is an important part of the tourism circuit of Samba district and efforts are underway to make the Sidh Goria-Bamuchak-Baba Chamliyal shrine a tourist circuit.

The district administration made elaborate arrangements for the convenience of devotees, including medical facilities, drinking water and help desks. Departmental stalls for various government schemes were also installed at the venue.

Mahant Bola Nath ji appreciated the efforts of the district administration for the smooth conduct of the mela, where thousands of devotees participated. Many local stalls were put in place by local vendors, which added to the economic activities of the area and enabled local trade.

A Dangal (wrestling competition) will be held tomorrow at the same place.

Chief Justice of India lays foundation stone for New High Court complex of J&K and Ladakh at Raika

#JAMMU: Hon’ble Dr. Justice Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India laid foundation stone for the new High Court complex of J&K and Ladakh at Raika, in presence of Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha; Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) and Hon’ble Judges of Supreme Court and High Court.

Document Management System (DMS) for High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and National Service and Tracking of Electronic Process (N-STEP) for District Courts were also launched.

Hon’ble Dr. Justice Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India, in his address described the Judicial Officers as front line warriors and exhorted them to live up to the expectations of the common man who is seeking justice.

“It is our endeavour that every section of the society, poor or underprivileged have access to Justice. The foundation of new High Court complex and the newly launched IT initiatives are pioneer steps in bringing reforms in the Justice delivery system,” he said.

He also stressed for encouraging productive participation of women in delivery of Justice.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha congratulated all the members of the Judiciary, legal fraternity and expressed gratitude to the Government of India for its support for the mega project.

“The new High Court complex of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will be an integrated complex with state-of-the-art physical infrastructure and modern amenities,” he said.

The Lt Governor lauded the e-Committee of Hon’ble Supreme Court and Department of Law and Justice for their efforts to use future technologies such as artificial intelligence for seamless and efficient justice delivery systems in courts.

“Million of hits to e-Court Services every day reflect citizen-centric efforts, ease of justice and digital empowerment,” the Lt Governor said.

“75 years journey of India’s independence is witness to democratic institutions fulfilling hope and aspiration of common citizens. Our Constitution as guiding light has ensured prosperity, socio-economic progress and dignity for all,” he added.

J&K IASOWA organises awareness prog on environmental issues, SUP free habitations

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Administrative Service Officers’ Wives Association (IASOWA) organised an awareness programme regarding environmental issues and Single Use Plastic free habitations.

During the event, the Association also organized a plantation drive and interactive session to mark the importance of plastic free environment in tune with the theme (# Beat the Plastic Pollution) of “World Environment Day 2023”. The programme was aimed at to raise awareness about sustainable development and community participation in environmental management and  conservation, particularly need for weeding out single use plastics from our lives.

The event was organised at Srinagar under the supervision of Dr. Amita Mehta, President IASOWA and attended by Dr Tabassum Ganai, Ruchi gupta, Rajni Shailendra, Dr. Mehak Shahid, Anikta Kar, Dr. Sadaf Aijaz and Dr. Irtiza Jeelani.

The participants emphasized the need for public outreach and stakeholder participation in matters related to environmental well being, which is the basis for healthy living. They discussed plastic pollution issues besides deliberating on its impact on our planet.

Div Com calls for immediate measures to ensure power, water supply in Jammu divisio

#JAMMU: To ensure regular supply of power and drinking water and address any emergent crisis situation in Jammu division, Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar today chaired a high-level meeting with Deputy Commissioners and Chief Engineers of Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited and Jal Shakti Department.

In a move aimed at ensuring accountability, the Div Com directed that each district must have a designated nodal officer from within Jal Shakti Department or JPDCL to act as a single point of contact in case of any irregularity in supply of these essential amenities. He also directed that a control room be set up and the contact number be widely published for the convenience of the public.

The nodal officer would also provide a daily report to the Div Com office regarding any issue pertaining to water or electricity supply and any unusual power curtailment or related issues.

The Div Com directed officials of JPDCL to stick to a well publicised curtailment schedule to ensure that the public doesn’t suffer indefinitely. He also called for coordination between mechanical and civil divisions of the Jal Shakti Department.

The Div Com took stock of available stock replacement and replacement rate of machinery in all districts. He was informed that a scheduled power-cut of 2 hours has been earmarked for urban areas with smart meters installed and 8 hours scheduled cuts for rural areas.

The Div Com was also apprised about the status of pending machinery purchases by the JPDCL. He was assured by engineers that the damage rate of transformers has greatly been reduced and the time taken to replace them has also been reduced to 2 to 4 hours in urban areas and to less than a day for rural areas.

Managing Director JPDCL assured the Div Com that no industries would be made to suffer besides the common public as all their power requirements would be expeditiously met.

The Div Com also directed that dedicated and uninterrupted power be supplied to Government Medical College Udhampur. It was decided during the meeting that water filtration plants would be exempted from scheduled power cuts.

The Div Com has also asked the Managing Director of JPDCL and Chief Engineer to visit District Doda to address its most pressing power-related issues.

The Div Com gave specific instructions to the Jal Shakti Department to rationalise its men and machinery and to give special attention to remote and Kandi areas. The department was also directed to identify and penalise illegal irrigation pumps so that genuine consumers are not faced with difficulties.

The Div Com reviewed the status of water supply tankers of Jammu Municipal Corporation and Jal Shakti Department and emphasised that these services be ensured around the clock for areas facing acute water shortage. He also called for immediate steps to plug water supply leakages within Jammu City.

The district administrations were also directed to make demand for essential supplies like poles, wires etc. and other bare minimum requirements to be fulfilled immediately.

The Div Com made special mention of water supply in Katra and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhavan. He said that water supply must be ensured in these two vital areas of the division.

Those present at the meeting also included senior officers of JPDCL, Power Development Department and Jal Shakti Department besides Deputy Commissioners and other district staff who participated virtually.

Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams dedicated to devotees at Jammu

#JAMMU8: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, along with G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, and Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State attended the Maha Samprokshanam of Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams at Jammu, today.

After paying their obeisance at the sanctity sanctum, the dignitaries attended the dedication ceremony of Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple, spread across over 62 acres of land, to the devotees.

G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism congratulated the people, J&K Government and all the devotees of Sri Venkateswara. The temple at Jammu will carry the message in the world that Kashmir to Kanyakumari, India is one. This will be a centre of spirituality and Sanatan traditions, he said.

“The dedication of Lord Venkateswara temple will strengthen religious tourism circuit in J&K. It will give a boost to spiritual tourism and a major fillip to the economic development and employment opportunities in the Union Territory,” said the Lt Governor.

The Lt Governor expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism for accelerating development and tourism promotion in J&K.

Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Amit Shah ji was expected to grace today’s occasion with his presence but due to some indispensable work, he couldn’t join us. He has conveyed his best wishes and told me his future event in Jammu will start only after paying obeisance to Sri Venkateswara Swamy, said the Lt Governor.

We are also grateful to the Y.V. The holy shrines of Sri Venkateswara, Baba Amarnath, Mata Vaishno Devi, Mata Sharda, Shiv Khori, Adi Shankaracharya Temple, Hazratbal and other prominent religious places and Sufi shrines in the UT will not only boost tourism but also develop Jammu Kashmir as the cultural-spiritual capital of the country, he added.

The Lt Governor lauded Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Kailakh Jyotish & Vedic Sansthan and other organizations for their immense contribution in promoting Vedic culture and traditions.

I am confident Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams will develop a Ved Pathshala and Health Centre on priority, he added.

“Lord Venkateswara maintains this world and he is the very basis of existence. His divine blessings continue to guide the journey of Atam-Nirbhar Bharat and ensuring peace and prosperity in the lives of people,” the Lt Governor said.

Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State, while speaking on the occasion, said the historic day will script a new milestone in the development journey of J&K UT.

This Vikas Tirth is a celebration of India’s unity in diversity and also signifies Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s vision of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, he added.
