DDC reviews operational effectiveness of Katra, Reasi Municipalities

#REASI: District Development Commissioner Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan today convened a meeting to review the operational effectiveness of the Katra and Reasi municipalities.

 Executive Officers from both municipalities presented detailed reports covering administrative and operational issues. Discussions focused on staffing adequacy, income generation strategies, and the progress of ongoing projects. Plans for the upcoming fiscal year were also deliberated.

 DDC issued specific directives emphasizing the identification and initiation of projects in public interest, maintenance and enhancement of sanitation standards, strict enforcement of building regulations and proactive removal of encroachments.

 ADDC Sukhdev Singh Samyal, Joint Director Chief Planning officer Narinder Kumar, EO KDA Gopal Singh, EO Municipal Committees Reasi and Katra were present.

27 thousand Kashmiri Pandits to vote for Anantnag-Rajouri Seat on May 25

#JAMMU: In Jammu and Kashmir, approximately 27 thousand displaced Kashmiri Pandits are set to cast their votes for the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary seat, the polls on which are scheduled to be held on May 25.

This seat boasts the highest number of voters among the 18 assembly constituencies in the region, with a total of 18, 30, 294 eligible voters, comprising 9, 30, 379 males, 8, 99, 888 females, and 27 third gender individuals. Preparations are in full swing for the final phase of the elections.

To accommodate the significant number of displaced voters, 21 polling stations and eight auxiliary centers are established in Jammu to facilitate quicker and more efficient voting for displaced individuals. Many of these voters have opted for postal ballots through the Vote for Home initiative.

These include special provisions for voters residing in locations like Jagti township. Previously, three auxiliary polling stations were arranged for the Srinagar and Baramulla parliamentary seats, but the large displaced voter population in Anantnag-Rajouri seat has necessitated additional facilities.

SANJY-2024: DAHO Ganderbal sets 10th June as last Date for Pony Registration

#GANDERBAL: The District Animal Husbandry Officer (DAHO) Ganderbal has set 10th of June as the last date for registration of ponies for the Shri Amarnathji Yatra (SANJY) 2024 via Baltal route.

In this connection, all Ponywallas have been asked to register their ponies before the 10th of June 2024, as no registration shall be done after the cut-off date

The DAHO Ganderbal has requested all Ponywallas to register their ponies at an earliest for a smooth registration process.

DC Jammu discusses action plan for rehabilitation of street children

#JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya today chaired a meeting to discuss formulation of an action plan for rehabilitation of children in distress or those forced to beg on the streets.

Emphasising the urgent need for rehabilitation of the targeted lot, the DC urged stakeholders to start the exercise and come up with a meticulously drafted plan. He stressed the importance of motivating these children and their families to seek shelter and education as an alternative to street life. “The parents of such children will also be given counselling to encourage them to send their children for education” he added.

A comprehensive, step-by-step strategy involving multiple departments was outlined. The plan includes health checkups, necessary registrations and verifications as part of the rehabilitation mission.

The meeting was attended by ADDC Sher Singh, SDMs, SP North Shivam Siddharth, Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Harbaksh Singh, District Social Welfare Officer Mamta Rajput and representatives from CWC and Childline among others.

Rates fixed for service providers during SANJY-2024 via Baltal

#SRINAGAR: To ensure the smooth conduct of Shri #AmarnathJi Yatra (SANJY) 2024 via the Baltal route, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today held a joint meeting with concerned officers and representatives of various service providers to fix rates for services at Sonamarg.

This initiative aims to prevent overcharging and enhance the quality of services for pilgrims.

During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held regarding the services provided by ponywalas, pithuwalas, palkiwalas, laborers and other service providers. The stakeholders shared their valuable suggestions and assured the DC of their cooperation to ensure a successful and smooth yatra.

After thorough deliberation, the committee, in consultation with the service provider’s representatives, fixed the rates for various services including ponies, pithus, dandies, palkies, and laborers for SANJY-2024.

The DC emphasized the importance of adhering to these fixed rates to maintain fairness and quality of service.

The meeting was attended by ADDC Ganderbal, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani; CEO SDA, Farooq Ahmad Baba, ASP, SDM Kangan, CPO, CAHO, Assistant Labour Commissioner, ARTO, and other district and sectoral officers.

Following the meeting, the DC, along with other officers, visited Baltal to inspect the ongoing preparations for the yatra.

He stressed the timely completion of essential services such as the repair of damaged water pipelines, power cabling, toilet facilities, repair of huts, fencing of the pony stand, development of the pony tract, parking areas, railing along the yatra track, and snow clearance.

The DC issued necessary instructions to ensure that all preparations are completed within the fixed timelines, guaranteeing the provision of the best possible services to the pilgrims.

Baramulla PC breaks barriers with passion and purpose in peaceful poll, creates history with around 59 % turnout

#BARAMULLA: The fifth phase of voting for General Elections to 18th Lok Sabha concluded peacefully here today with around 59 % voting in the districts of Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and Budgam districts partly.

“Fractional correction is expected in the percentage figure, as at some of the Polling Stations voting continued even after 6.00 pm and many polling parties are yet to reach Reception Center. This remarkable participation marks a new era of peace and civic engagement in these districts”, read a communique issued here today by the office of J&K Chief Electoral Officer, Pandurang K Pole.

This year’s elections were conducted without any boycott calls or intimidation, showcasing the voters’ unwavering belief in power of the ballot. Not a single polling station reported zero votes, which is a testament to the widespread enthusiasm and commitment to the democratic process. Corresponding percentage for last Lok Sabha election in 2019 was 37.41 %.

The highest ever poll percentage in Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency, since the eruption of terrorism in Kashmir was recorded in year 1996 with 46.65% and in the history of Baramulla PC, highest poll percentage was (approx.) 61.09 % in year 1984. This year’s poll percentage is definitely second highest in democratic history of Baramulla PC and may likely to be highest, as final figures are yet to reach from remote areas and also two assembly segments– Budgam and Beerwah have been added in recent de-limitation, we can say it is highest for the Baramulla PC in today’s size.

The CEO has attributed this substantially increased record polling percentage to improved security – law and order environment in last 4-5 years, mobilization by 22 candidates and Political parties, election awareness done by Deputy Commissioners and CEO office through SVEEP activities and more importantly voters strong belief that it is the ballot which can lead to sustainable development (Aman, Tarraki aur Khush-hali).

The communique stated that the Polling took place in 2,103 polling stations across the Baramulla Parliamentary constituency with live webcasting at all the polling stations. Voting started at 7 a.m. across the PC with long queues of enthusiastic voters waiting to cast their votes. Demonstrating the spirit of democracy, the voters of Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and Budgam showed up in record numbers to cast their votes in a significant show of faith in the Election Process. Since beginning of the poll at 7.00 AM, voters were seen standing in long queues at many polling stations across the all 4 districts. Elderlies, ladies, youths were seen enthusiastically exercising their right to vote in a peaceful environment.

Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir, Pandurang. K. Pole monitored the progress of voting in Phase -V across the Parliamentary Constituency from the Union Territory-level Command and Control Center established at ICCC- HMT, Bemina and CEO Office, Srinagar.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Command and Control center has been working 24 x 7 at Srinagar as well as Jammu since 16 March to ensure free, fair, and inducement-free elections. Actual Poll started at 7.00 AM and after two hours of polling, 7.70%(it was without Sopore Assembly segment, as the AERO couldn’t upload it in time, however it was included in next two hourly reporting time at 11.00 am) polling was recorded in the constituency at 09:00 am; at 11.00 AM 21.56% of voting, at 01:00PM 35.08% voting; at 3:00 PM 45.22 % voting was recorded. By 5:00 pm 54.57% polling was recorded in the constituency. Assembly segment wise highest poll percentage was observed in Handwara with around 72.00 % and lowest in Guru with 40.82 %. Srinagar-Jammu highway to remain closed on 21 May due to maintenance work

#RAMBAN: The traffic authorities on today said that Srinagar-Jammu national highway will remain closed for traffic on 21 May as maintenance work .

Our correspondent reports that due to the recent rains in Srinagar-Jammu national highway, there has been heavy damage to the road at Sher Bibi, Kishtawari Pathar ,Hingni, Dalwas and Mahad Cafeteria Mod in Ramban sector.

In view of the necessary repairs of the Highway, the movement of vehicles on the national highway will be closed on 21 May

He also said no LMV or HMV (except medical emergency vehicles) will be allowed to ply on NH-44 between Nashri Tunnel towards Navyuga Tunnel and vice-versa.

J&K Sports Council, Senior Hockey Players promote Hockey among Toddlers

SRINAGAR: Hockey is rapidly gaining popularity among youngsters in Kashmir, as a result of the joint efforts of the J&K Sports Council and senior Hockey players.

This initiative stems for encouraging the toddlers to play hockey with an aim to attain highly professional hockey playing skills to represent UT as well as the country at national and international platforms respectively.

The training program under this initiative is scheduled to commence from Sunday, 19 May, 2024 and shall continue to be conducted on every Sunday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.

Meanwhile, recognizing the need for modern facilities, the J&K Sports Council has set up three new Astroturf hockey fields—one in Pulwama and two in Srinagar. These facilities provide a conducive environment for young players to practice and hone their skills.

Despite challenges like extreme weather conditions, J&K Sports council has successfully organized tournaments across different age categories in various districts.

J&K Sports Council has introduced great initiative of league tournament matches which has taken Hockey in J&K to the next level. Another milestone is the introduction of Basic Hockey skills among toddlers.

Nuzhat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports council, expressed optimism about the future of hockey in the UT.  She emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent and creating a strong foundation for the sport.

Toddler Hockey workshop will help to strengthen the foundation of the Hockey, and this program will also be replicated in other districts of J&K, she added.

Bovine transportation banned in Reasi District

#REASI: Additional District Magistrate, in exercise of powers vested under section 144 Cr.PC has prohibited the transportation of bovine animals within the jurisdiction of District Reasi, without seeking permission from the District Magistrate.

The order shall come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force for a period of two months. However, it shall not apply in case of transportation of bovine animals by the Government departments for departmental purposes.

Any violation of this order shall invite punitive action under section 188 of Indian Penal Code.

Govt Polytechnic Jammu organizes technical visit for students to Electrical Central Workshop Narwal

#JAMMU: Government Polytechnic College Jammu, under the guidance of the Principal Er. Arun Bangotra and HoD Electrical Engineering Department Er. Manjeet Singh, organized a Technical Visit for the students of 4th Semester Electrical Engineering Department to Electrical Central Workshop Division Narwal. The Technical visit served as a valuable opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of real world applications within their field of Study. The event underscored the importance of such initiatives in fostering academic growth and Practical knowledge among aspiring engineers.

A group of Technical Experts consisting of Er. Bhanu Partap Singh Jamwal Technical officer, Er. Punica A.E, Er. Sanjeev Dutta J.E and Er. Pratiksha J.E briefed the students regarding Repair/Reclamation of Distribution Transformers with Capacity ranging from 25 KVA to 630KVA. The Students were taken around the workshop premises and imparted know how about the various works being carried out like Opening of transformers, Rewinding of Transformers  with the use of Winding Machines (HT winding and LT winding and reconditioning of LT winding), Assembling of Transformer, Heat Treatment in three Ovens for obtaining the desired Megger value of the assembled transformer, designing the transformer for Star and delta connections, filtration of oil by using Oil filtration plant, sampling of filtered oil to obtain desired BDV of oil  and finally filling the transformer body with transformer oil followed by closing of repaired transformers.

The students were further updated about testing of repaired transformers in the Testing lab, including HV Test and LV Test, Meggar Test , Core losses test, Copper losses test and open circuit, Short Circuit test, Double voltage double frequency test and turns ratio test.

In addition to this, Technical Experts apprised the students regarding the History of Electrical Central Workshop Division, which was set up in the year 1986 over a large area. The team informed that approximately 600 to 650 Repaired Transformers are kept ready to meet the demand. The Transformer Testing Laboratory in the Central Transformer workshop is one of the unique Testing labs in the Province, they said.
