Plantation drive held at Jammu wing of High Court

#JAMMU: Under the patronage of Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice N.Kotiswar Singh and guidance of Judge High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Tashi Rabstan, a plantation drive was held today in the High Court Complex, Janipur here.

Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice N.Kotiswar Singh, Justice Tashi Rabstan, Justice Atul Sreedharan,  Justice Sindhu Sharma,  Justice Puneet Gupta, Justice Rahul Bharti,  Justice Mohd. Yousuf Wani and President, J and K High Court Bar Association, Jammu keenly took part in the plantation drive and also gave message of plantation to youth by planting trees of different varieties.

Principal Secretary to Chief Justice, M.K. Sharma; Director Judicial Academy, Y.P.Bourney; Registrar Rules, Rajinder Sapru; Registrar Judicial, Jammu Wing, Sandeep Kour; Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority; Amit Kumar Gupta;  Secretary, High Court Legal Service Committee, Prem Sagar; advocates and officers/officials of the registry were also present on the occasion.

The event was organized with an aim of enhancing the concept of Van-Mahotsav and making people aware about environment and importance of green cover around us.

J&K Govt forms panel to identify and deport illegal foreign nationals

#JAMMU: In Jammu and Kashmir, the administration has established a seven-member panel to identify foreign nationals who have been illegally overstaying in J&K for the past 13 years.

The initiative aims to facilitate the deportation of these individuals and address the issue of illegal immigration. The committee has to identify foreign nationals illegally overstaying in the Union Territory since 2011. Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department issued an order in this regard.

The panel will be chaired by the Administrative Secretary of the Home Department and includes key members such as the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) of Punjab, representatives from the Criminal Investigation Department (Special Branch) of Jammu and Srinagar headquarters, all district SSPs and SPs (Foreigners Registration), and the state coordinator of the National Informatics Centre (NIC).

The committee’s primary responsibilities include gathering biographic and biometric details of illegal migrants and maintaining an updated digital record. They are required to prepare a monthly report and submit it to the Union Home Ministry by the fifth day of each month.

Additionally, the Home Department has instructed the panel to coordinate and oversee efforts related to tracing and deporting foreign nationals residing illegally in J&K. The panel is also tasked with disseminating information on ongoing cases in various courts and monitoring and updating the status of these cases for relevant stakeholders.

The yatries will be felicitates with All type of facilities and arrangements are made for toilets, electricity, lodging and boarding for pilgrims , registration cards, RFID cards will be provided to pilgrims.
 
Whereas all other arrangements as langers and drinking water, traffic management will be manage for pilgrims said Divisional Commissioner Jammu Romesh kumar.
 
He said that hassle free traffic arrangements will be made on National Highway on tight security arrangement.
 
The preparation to welcome Amarnath yatries is in full swing with all basic facilities with tight security arrangement.

Lt Gen Dwivedi appointed as Army chief

NEW DELHI: Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi will be the next chief of the Army staff succeeding incumbent Gen Manoj Pande, the government announced on Tuesday night, ending speculations on the key appointment.

Lt Gen Dwivedi, who has vast operational experience along the frontiers with China and Pakistan, is presently serving as Vice Chief of the Army Staff. Gen Pande will retire on June 30.

In appointing Lt Gen Dwivedi, the government followed the seniority principle.

NIA team reaches Reasi to coordinate with local Police

#REASI: An NIA team today reached Reasi district and is coordinating with local police probing into the terror attack on a passenger bus on Sunday evening that left 10 people dead and several injured.

The security forces have also launched a massive cordon and search operation to track down the terrorists responsible for the attack. Terrorists opened fire at the 53 seater bus, on its way from the Shiv Khori temple to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, causing it to veer off the road and fall into a deep gorge near the Teryath village of the Poni area in Reasi district on Sunday. The bus was ferrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi.

Ten people, including a two year old boy from Rajasthan and a 14 year old from Uttar Pradesh, died in the attack. 41 people aged between three and 50 were injured in the ambush. Of them, 10 suffered gunshot injuries. As per eyewitnesses, two terrorists were there as of now.

A combing operation is underway in the area. Five teams have been formed to conduct the search operation in the area and the dense forest in and around the incident spot. Army and State Disaster Response Force are also present at the site. Drones are also being used to search the forest area.

CS reviews Tawi Riverfront, artificial lake development project; Exhorts for expeditious completion

#SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, today convened a meeting to review the progress achieved, so far, in development of Tawi Riverfront and artificial lake being established as part of the Jammu Smart City project.

Among others the meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Jal Shakti, Commissioner Secretary, H&UDD, MD HADP, CEO, JSCL, Chief Engineer, I&FC besides other concerned officers while Jammu based officers participated online.

The Chief Secretary had a detailed overview of the progress registered on different components of this mega beautification project of Jammu City. He defined the project as vital for further enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the city by giving it an upgraded look for the visitors. He impressed upon the officers to maintain inter-departmental coordination for meeting the set deadlines for project execution. He stressed on close monitoring of works by the senior officers to ensure both quality and efficiency in delivery outcomes.

Dulloo exhorted upon the concerned authorities to ensure that all the diversion works and installation of sluice gates are completed within set deadlines so that pondage of designated lake area is carried out at the earliest. He asked for ensuring completion of all allied works simultaneously by the Smart City and other executing agencies so that the project gets accomplished at an earliest.

The Chief Secretary enquired about the quantum of work still pending on diversion work of each nallah on the right and left bank of the lake.

Earlier, ACS, Jal Shakti Department, Shaleen Kabra, presented a broad overview of the works being carried out by his department for development of the lake inside the Tawi river from 4th bridge up to Gujjar Nagar in first phase. He informed that the works included construction of 4 promenades and embankments for a length of 2.7 km on both sides of the river from Bhagwati Nagar Barrage to Bikram Bridge including central island as part of phase first of this project. He added that the project, being established with an estimated cost of Rs 191.15 crore, is expected to be completed by September this year with an aggregate progress of nearly 80% on all of its components.

Regarding physical progress of the project, the updated photographs of the works carried out on right and left banks including the central island were displayed during the meeting.

In another presentation, Commissioner Secretary, H&UDD, Mandeep Kaur, also detailed out the possible land use pattern on both the banks. She explained that the intended land use includes for development of land parcels for residential, commercial and recreational purpose.

Saudi announces #Eid Al Adha on June 16

NEW DELHI: Saudi Arabia on Thursday announced the sighting of the crescent moon, marking the start of the month of Dhul Hijjah.

This sighting confirms that the first day of Eid Al Adha will be on June 16.

The Day of Arafah, the pinnacle of Hajj pilgrimage, will be observed on June 15.

Arafat Day falls on Saturday, June 15, while Sunday, June 16 will be the first day of Eid Al Adha, a Saudi Supreme Court statement said on Thursday.

Most Gulf countries align with Saudi Arabia’s announcement.

However, Oman announced that the crescent moon was not sighted in the country on Thursday and hence Eid Al Adha will be celebrated on Monday, June 17.

EDA announces annual summer vacation dates

#JAMMU: The Executive Body of the Association of Electric Dealers, Jammu convened on June 3, 2024, to address the upcoming annual summer vacations. In a unanimous decision, it was agreed that all Electric Shops under the association’s purview will remain closed on June 20th, 21st, and 22nd, 2024, corresponding to Thursday, Friday, and Saturday respectively.

This decision aligns with the longstanding tradition observed by the association during the summer break. Members of the association are urged to comply with this directive, ensuring the closure of their shops and establishments on the aforementioned dates.

The Association extends its sincere request to the general public to plan their purchases accordingly, taking into account the closure dates of Electric Shops.
