It is believed that Parashurama was born during Pradosh Kala and hence the day when Tritiya prevails during Pradosh Kala is considered for Parashurama Jayanti celebrations.

The purpose of the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu is to relieve the Earth\’s burden by exterminating the sinful, destructive and irreligious monarchs that pillaged its resources and neglected their duties as kings. Like as other parts of world.

President confers Padma Shri to Dogri folk artist of Jammu region Romalo Ram

President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred Padma Shri to Romalo Ram of Jammu and Kashmir in the field of Art during the civil investiture ceremony in New Delhi on Thursday.

Romalo Ram is a Dogri Folk artist of the Jammu region and is known as the real founder of the Dogri folk song Geetru. He revived the dying folk form “Geetru and Bhakh” with his dedication and hard work. Born on March 3, 1963, Ram received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1985 from Jammu University and after graduation, he joined as a government teacher in 1987 and started writing Dogri poems and folk songs.

He served in remote areas for better education, particularly of the village students and he retired as Zonal Education Officer, Ramnagar in Udhampur district in March 2023.

Ram started performing Dogri folk in 1980-81 under the banner ‘Romalo Ram and Party’ by participating in local functions.He served across the Jammu region for a long time and started a new revolution by the name of ‘Mission Maa Dogri’. His ‘Mission Maa Dogri’ model has become the foundation for the huge success of young aspirants in the region.

More than 150 students are working and learning the traditional art under him. Ram published a book ‘Geetruyen Di Fouhar’.

His contribution in the form of cassettes, records, and published articles is proof of his excellence in the field.

He was approved as a B-grade artist in All India Radio (AIR) Jammu in 1988 and in 1995 approved as a B-high grade Jammu.

He acted as a member of the General Council Committee of JKAACL to represent Dogri folk music and remained an active member of the Advisory Sub Committee for folk music nominated by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages.

He acted as brand ambassador of the SVEEP programme of district Udhampur and Reasi in the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly election 2014. Romalo Ram is the recipient of numerous awards and honours.

Leh – Manali National Highway opens for Army vehicles

#LEH: The Leh – Manali National Highway, which was closed in November last year following snowfall, was opened by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for the movement of army vehicles. Project Himank in Leh and Project Deepak in Himachal Pradesh carried out the snow clearance operations.

As the two teams converged to a common point, a ‘Golden Handshake’ ceremony was organised at the Sarchu border on Tuesday. At present, the road is open only for the Army convoys. The District Disaster Management Authorities will take the decision to allow access for locals and tourists over subsequent periods.

As per the officials, the snow clearance is undertaken in extremely challenging conditions particularly at high mountain passes, including Baralacha La, Nakee La, Lachung La and Tanglang La all of which stand at an altitude of more than 15 thousand feet.

The 427-kilometre-long highway linking Ladakh to the rest of India through Manali holds strategic importance for facilitating the movement of armed forces and their essential supplies to forward positions in Ladakh. Serving as an alternative route to the Srinagar-Leh Highway, it plays a crucial role in maintaining connectivity and logistical support in the region.

ECI launches “KNOW YOUR CANDIDATE” App for Lok Sabha Elections

#JAMMU: To strengthen accountability and bring transparency in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India has developed a new app titled “Know Your Candidate”.

The app helps citizens to know about the criminal antecedents of candidates contesting the elections.

To use the KYC app, the voters need to select the election type and AC/PC name to view the list of nominations or they can directly search the candidate by name. The app will then display information about the candidate’s criminal antecedents, if any. This information includes the details of any criminal cases filed against the candidate, the status of those cases, and the nature of offenses. It can help voters in identifying candidates with a history of criminal activity thereby enabling them to make an informed decision.

The citizen will be able to view the status of criminal cases filed against the candidate (if any) including the nature of offenses that the candidate has been accused of. The app is a valuable resource for voters who want to know more about the candidates who are contesting elections. The application is available both on Android and IOS devices. 2 Udhampur Hotels achieve Swachhata Green Leaf Rating

The self-certification compliance for Swachhata Green Leaf is a rigorous process that requires hotels to adhere to strict guidelines related to cleanliness, waste management, and sustainability practices. By successfully completing this process, these hotels have demonstrated their dedication to provide a clean and eco-friendly environment to their guests.

Hotel Heritage, Patnitop received 3 leaf rating and Subash Hotel Patnitop received 1 leaf rating.

The SGLR is divided into three major categories, in which ‘5 leaf’ certificate is provided to the establishments with best cleanliness, waste management, and sustainability practices followed by ‘3 leaf’ and ‘1 leaf’ rating system.

Director General Rural Sanitation, J&K, Anoo Malhotra said: “The achievement of Swachhata Green Leaf Ratings by these hotels is not only a testament to their commitment to excellence but also a commendable step towards promoting cleanliness and sustainability at tourist hill-station Patnitop in Udhampur district.”

Director General Rural Sanitation added that it is hoped that other hotels and establishments in the area will follow suit, contributing to the overall improvement of cleanliness and environmental standards in the area.

SGLR is a groundbreaking move to revolutionize sanitation practices within India’s expanding tourism industry, the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, introduced the SGLR initiative.

The Swachhata Green Leaf Ratings scheme is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, which aims to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation across India. The successful completion of the self-certification compliance by these hotels is a testament to the success of this mission and a shining example for others to follow.

Earlier this year, “National Pilot on Swachhata Green Leaf Rating in Hospitality Facilities” was launched at tourist place Pahalgam in district Anantnag of Jammu and Kashmir and Kaziranga National Park, Assam.

Aligned with the Travel for LiFE programme under Mission LiFE, the Swachhata Green Leaf Rating initiative endeavours to promote sustainable tourism practices that harmonize with nature.

Lt Governor attends Annual Day Celebration of Sainik School, Nagrota

The Lt Governor congratulated the Administration, students and teachers of the institution on the occasion.

MP Jugal Kishore Sharma delivers PM’s message at border panchayat, encourages public engagement in nation’s development

#JAMMU: In a vibrant display of national pride and commitment to development, the Viksit Bharat Yatra today reached the ‘Zero Line Border Panchayat’ of Suchetgarh. The event, graced by Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma as the Chief Guest, witnessed enthusiastic participation of locals and other eminent persons.

The Viksit Bharat Yatra van, adorned with messages of progress and transformation, received a grand welcome, setting the tone for a day filled with information, interaction and inspiration. A video message from the Prime Minister kick-started the program, urging all present to take a solemn pledge towards building a self-reliant India by 2047.

The MP, along with other dignitaries, inspected 17 stalls showcasing various initiatives undertaken by frontline departments. This interactive session provided insights into the diverse efforts being made to improve lives across sectors.

In his address, Jugal Kishore Sharma expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the local population for their enthusiastic participation. The Social Welfare Department helped in distribution of Ayushman cards and sanction letters to beneficiaries of the Old Age Pension Scheme. Representatives from other government departments took the stage to inform the audience about the multitude of schemes launched by the Government of India.

A health camp, organised under the supervision of BMO RS Pura Dr. Monika Kotwal, took place concurrently at the Community Hall in Suchetgarh. The camp offered NCD screening, anaemia screening and TB screening, along with counselling and awareness sessions about various health-related schemes. Free medicines were also distributed to those in need.

Sarpanch Suchetgarh, Des Raj besides other PRI representatives participated in the event.

Royal Bengal Tiger pair to roar in Jambu Zoo

#JAMMU: A pair of Royal Bengal Tiger, the National Animal, aged 9 years, is reaching Jambu Zoo today from Aringar Anna Zoological Park, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Pertinently, the tiger pair has been brought here in exchange of a pair of Himalayan Black Bear from Jambu Zoo to Aringar Anna Zoological Park as part of an animal exchange programme.

The Royal Bengal Tiger is one of the largest, fiercest, and most powerful member of Big Cat family. Every tiger has a distinct strip pattern which makes them different from other tigers and makes it easy in counting them during the tiger census. There are around 3,167 tigers in India’s forests, which is more than 75% of the global Tiger population as per the 2023 Tiger Census. .

The Tiger pair will be housed in a naturalistic and enriched enclosure having a space of more than 4500 square meter as per the Central Zoo Authority’s norms with water ponds, machans, heating and ventilation facility for extreme weather condition. The Tigers will will be kept under quarantine for a week’s time and thereafter will be released in the paddock for public display.

Royal Bengal Tiger will be an additional attraction in the family of Jambu Zoo and a great delight for the public especially children, wildlife enthusiasts and other the visitors.
