#SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution urging the Union Government to amend the Right to Education Act to exempt teachers appointed before October 31, 2019, from appearing in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). The resolution was moved by School Education Minister Sakeena Itoo.
During the discussion, Itoo said the issue was linked to the dignity and long years of service of teachers and noted that the J&K Government had already explored legal options regarding the TET requirement.
The Assembly also witnessed discussion on a proposed two-day weekend holiday for students, while the Minister also spoke on the implementation of UGC-norm salary/pay scales for Assistant Professors. J&K’s existing 2018 rules provide UGC-revised academic pay levels for Assistant Professors, including Academic Levels 10, 11 and 12.
The TET resolution will now be forwarded to the Union Government for consideration and necessary action.
